Most pet fountains pump the same water around in a loop, and the filters need replacing. This bowl works differently. A sealed top tank holds clean water. When your pet drinks the bowl down, it tops itself up from that tank, and the old water drains into a separate wastewater tank. Your pet always drinks clean water, and you just empty one tank and refill the other.
